Basic Manners for Real Life
Looking for a group obedience training class for your young dog? Basic Manners for Real Life is a foundational course designed for dogs 20 weeks and older and their owners who are new to structured training. (If you’re just bringing your new puppy home – congratulations! We recommend registering very young puppies (12 weeks and under) in our Puppy Start Right program. The socialization window of a young dog is limited – closing before 16 weeks. Please read our guidance on safely socializing your young dog before they are fully vaccinated.)
This beginner-friendly course will introduce clicker or marker training, essential training principles, and key obedience skills to help you build a well-mannered companion. Each week of the course will focus on a typical teenage challenge like jumping on guests, pulling on a leash, or not coming when called. The role of environmental management will be emphasized. We encourage prospective students to read our blog post on setting limits for your young dog.
This six-session program includes five group classes and one private 40-minute session, scheduled at the time of registration. Our focus is on creating a fun, positive learning experience while addressing common behavior challenges.
Please note: This class is not suitable for aggressive, reactive, or overly fearful dogs, nor for females in heat. Proof of vaccinations (Distemper, Parvovirus, DHPP, and Rabies) is required before attendance.
